Individuals with disabilities or with individuals special need?

momlybys

In this video, Ghanim Al-Muftah illustrates the difference between individuals with disabilities and individuals with special needs. According to Al-Muftah, people with special needs can be someone with a broken hand, a pregnant woman, or even someone who wears eyeglasses. In brief, individuals with disabilities are people who need assistance in performing a certain activity and this need is temporary.

Ghanim continues to say that people with disabilities are those who are born with certain defects that permanently disables them from performing the desired activity.

He believes that the term “individuals with disabilities” gives him the right to ask for required changes to be implemented in the environment that facilitates his movement, and gives him his basic right: to be independent. He also mentions that individuals with disabilities should not be called other terms such as “individuals with determination” because terms like this burden them more. At the end of the video, Ghanim asks the people to be realistic and call things by its name rather than trying to beautify it.
